Colour First, Texture Second: Autumn/Winter 2026 Fashion Trends

After several seasons of quiet neutrals, the autumn/winter 2026 runways made a different case: colour first, texture second, and personality throughout. Coverage from Vogue and fashion-month round-ups points to a wardrobe that feels expressive without needing a full costume change — a cobalt knit, a burgundy coat, a brocade skirt that catches the light.

Colour takes the lead

Writing in August 2026, Vogue’s Andrea Zendejas described fall/winter 2026 as a season that lets colour lead the way. Familiar cold-weather favourites still appear — red at Celine, burgundy at Miu Miu, Chanel and Louis Vuitton — but they sit beside less expected choices. Royal purple showed up across Celine, Loewe, Mugler, Tory Burch and Balenciaga. Cobalt blue returned in electric form, worn monochrome or against navy and grey at houses such as Givenchy and Jil Sander. Peach and melon tones, turquoise, and soft butter yellow also cut through the usual browns and blacks, according to the same report. The message is not “buy every shade”; it is that a single saturated accent can reset an autumn look.

Texture you can almost feel

Colour is only half the story. For autumn/winter 2026, florals have moved off flat print and into brocade and jacquard — woven blooms with real weight, as Apparel Resources noted in September 2026, citing runway pieces at Dior, Valentino, Balmain, Chanel and Dries Van Noten. Embroidery, beading and rich surfaces give clothes an heirloom feel rather than a one-season print. Vogue’s later September round-up of key fall 2026 trends adds soft suiting, Art Deco evening detail, moody dark florals and playful proportions to the same mood: practical pieces with more character than the quiet-luxury years that came before.

Small ways to wear it

You do not need a couture brocade coat to join in. A jewel-toned ring or a pair of studs can echo the season’s saturated palette — try a cobalt-leaning Natural Sapphire Chunky Halo Ring, a deep green Natural Emerald Chunky Pave Ring, or the vivid note of a Natural Ruby Flower Halo Ring. For a lighter touch of colour near the face, the Natural Emerald Floral Stud Earrings sit comfortably with knits and coats alike. If you are browsing for more finishing pieces this season, our earrings and sapphire rings collections are a gentle place to start.
