Another royal wedding is on the horizon. Princess Alexandra of Leiningen, a 28-year-old descendant of Queen Victoria who goes by Alexa, has announced her engagement to Everett Kohl, her partner of nearly three years. She shared the news on Instagram on 13 October with a photo of the couple in Whistler, Canada, captioned simply “What a weekend”, and her ring firmly in the frame.
A proposal at a mountain lookout
Speaking to HELLO! magazine, Alexa explained that the proposal happened one morning this month as the pair drove from Vancouver to Whistler. Everett often stops at scenic lookouts on their road trips, so she thought nothing of it when he pulled over. This time, though, he asked her to marry him. She said she was genuinely surprised, and that the private, beautiful setting made the moment even more meaningful.
Her mother, Deborah Cully, celebrated on Instagram, saying the family was overjoyed that Alexa would be marrying the love of her life. No wedding date has been announced yet, and the couple say they are only just beginning to plan.
The ring with a story
The ring has a large centre diamond, which Vanity Fair Italia describes as oval-cut, set between two smaller stones. The magazine notes that the three-stone layout recalls the ring Prince Harry designed for Meghan Markle. Here too, the design was personal: Everett worked on it himself, and Alexa has said the ring has many sentimental details and that she could not love it more.
A three-stone ring is a timeless choice, and it is often read as past, present and future. If you love that idea, browse our women’s rings, from soft pink morganite rings and icy aquamarine rings to classic sapphire rings, or complete the look with one of our jewellery sets.
A European family with Canadian roots
Alexa is the youngest of three daughters of Prince Hermann Friedrich of Leiningen and Deborah Cully. Her father is the son of Prince Karl of Leiningen and Princess Marie Louise of Bulgaria, and the family line goes back to Queen Victoria through her second son, Prince Alfred. According to Vanity Fair Italia, that places Alexa 177th in line to the British throne. She grew up in Canada, graduated from Queen’s University in 2020 and has spoken about visiting her father’s family in Amorbach, Germany, home of the Leiningen palace.
