Halloween is just a week away, and this year the most stylish way to mark it has nothing to do with a full costume. In its Saturday shopping column, Vanity Fair Italia argues that one well-chosen detail is enough to turn a simple black dress into an elegant “witch” look. Its edit is built mostly around jewellery: small talismans, dark stones, silver creatures and moonlit motifs that feel mysterious rather than spooky.
Talismans, moons and silver creatures
The selection leans towards what the magazine calls a neo-baroque mood. The Italian fine jewellery house TittiBi has a Halloween capsule of earrings and a jewelled handbag where deep black stones and portraits catch the light through crystals framed in gold. Amants de la Lune, a brand launched in 2020 to blend astrology with high-fashion jewellery, offers pieces in gold- and palladium-plated bronze meant to be worn as lucky charms. DoDo plays with mysterious cats, precious moons and tiny silver skulls, while Aliita has added a sterling silver necklace on a leather cord to its playful collection of ghosts, pumpkins and bats.
Two bigger names complete the picture. Giovanni Raspini explores the darker, more seductive side of the animal world, and the magazine singles out his Serpente Eden ring. According to the brand’s own website, it is cast by hand in Tuscany in burnished sterling silver, with a snake coiled over a large amethyst-coloured quartz set among silver leaves. Pandora, meanwhile, celebrates the season with a black cat charm in sterling silver whose green eyes glow in the dark and a gold-plated pumpkin scarecrow with moveable arms, details confirmed on Pandora’s own product pages.
How to wear gothic chic beyond 31 October
The beauty of this trend is that it does not end when the pumpkins go out. Rich, moody colours such as burgundy, wine, deep brown and midnight blue run through the edit, including tarot-inspired cashmere scarves from Faliero Sarti, and they suit autumn and winter dressing perfectly. Start with one strong piece and keep the rest simple.
