The spring/summer 2027 womenswear season came to an end in Paris on Tuesday evening, 6 October, when Louis Vuitton staged the final major show of a month that began in New York and travelled through London and Milan. Nicolas Ghesquière, who has led the house’s women’s collections for almost 13 years, chose lightness over spectacle in the clothes, even if the setting was anything but modest.
An asphalt runway at the Louvre
As FashionUnited (reporting for AFP) and the Associated Press described, models walked an asphalt runway laid across the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, weaving between retro-futuristic car sculptures that the show notes called “concept cars”. Ghesquière named the collection “Ergonomics” and wrote that “nothing is rigid, everything is fluid”.
The palette of grey, silver and yellow recalled an airport landing strip. There were dresses combining mesh with fabric described as being as light as cigarette paper, monogrammed aviator jackets, technical anoraks, slip dresses and slim tapered trousers. Straight-cut, sixties-style shift dresses carried reflective paper diamond shapes that moved as the models walked. According to W Magazine, Ghesquière told reporters he wanted “a sensation of simplicity”, and ruffles appeared as soft accents on light, knee-length cardigans and skirts. Loafers, which FashionUnited called the shoe of the season, featured throughout, and the bags were noticeably smaller.
The designer said he had climate change in mind and wanted the fabric to feel like a second skin, as light as possible. Guests included Zendaya, a house ambassador, along with Emma Stone and Catherine Deneuve.
A season grounded in reality
Vogue’s round-up of Paris Fashion Week described a series of shows “grounded in reality”, shaped by economic uncertainty and slow sales. Several designers spoke openly about wearability: Glenn Martens took a more commercial approach at Maison Margiela, and Duran Lantink said his Jean Paul Gaultier collection had more pieces people could actually wear. Shoes emerged as a key category, seen as an easier way into luxury for shoppers who find the big houses’ clothing out of reach. Linda Fargo of Bergdorf Goodman called the week “superlative”.
What it means for accessories
Lighter fabrics and pared-back silhouettes tend to suit smaller, finer jewellery. A touch of yellow, picked up from the Louis Vuitton palette, works well in citrine earrings such as a slim pair of citrine linear drop earrings, while the silvery tones of the show pair naturally with clear and blue topaz pendants.
