Kate Middleton Shares a Never-Seen Halloween Photo of Prince Louis

For the first time, the Prince and Princess of Wales have marked Halloween on their official social media. On Saturday 31 October 2026, Kate Middleton shared a never-before-seen photograph of Prince Louis from the family album, with a simple caption: “Happy Halloween!”, a pumpkin emoji and the credit “Prince Louis, aged 1, photographed by The Princess of Wales”. Vanity Fair Italia, The Independent and ABC News were among the outlets that picked up the post within hours.

A pumpkin almost as big as the prince

The picture was taken at the family’s country home in Norfolk, roughly seven years ago. It shows a very young Louis in a navy-blue waterproof jacket and bright red wellies, leaning forward on the grass as he tries to wrap his arms around an enormous orange pumpkin that reaches almost up to his chest. There is no posing and no formal outfit, just a toddler, an autumn garden and a moment of pure curiosity. Louis, the youngest of the couple’s three children after Prince George and Princess Charlotte, is now eight, and the public has grown fond of his expressive, cheerful character at royal events over the years.

The Royal Family does not formally celebrate Halloween, and the Waleses usually keep the day private. Over the years, though, there have been glimpses: Vanity Fair Italia recalls reports of Kate browsing costumes with George and Charlotte in a Norfolk supermarket in 2019, and of the family going trick-or-treating in London in 2022.

The princess behind the camera

The post is also a reminder of one of Kate’s best-known passions. She is a keen amateur photographer and has taken many of the portraits of her children released for birthdays and other family occasions. Her style favours natural light, everyday clothes and relaxed moments rather than studio formality, and this autumn snapshot fits that pattern perfectly.

The palette of the photo is seasonal in the best way: deep navy, pillar-box red and pumpkin orange. It is an easy colour story to borrow for autumn. A warm citrine pendant picks up the orange tones, garnet earrings echo the rich red, and a sapphire ring brings in the navy. Add a practical crossbody bag for country walks and you have a relaxed weekend look. Explore more seasonal pieces in our jewellery collection.
