Bella Hadid turned 30 on Friday 9 October, and she marked the milestone in a way that was personal rather than flashy: a red string bikini made just for her. Two days later, on Sunday 11 October, the model shared an Instagram carousel from a lakeside weekend at Blackberry Farm in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, captioned simply: “Hi my name is bella and I’m 30”. Vanity Fair Italia, People and Page Six all picked up on the look within days.
A bikini with her name on it
The two-piece was custom-made by the Los Angeles swimwear label Baben. According to People and Page Six, the triangle top carries a white “30”, while the back of the bottoms is finished with “Bella” and a small star. It is a playful idea, but a neat one: instead of a party dress worn once, a birthday piece that literally spells out the occasion. The brand added its own wishes beneath the post, saying it had been an honour to make the special bikini and wishing her the best year yet.
Page Six reports that Hadid spent the weekend with around a dozen friends, and other photos in her posts showed the group shaping clay, riding in a golf cart and sharing wine by the water.
Country styling with a TV twist
Rather than wearing the swimsuit on its own, Hadid layered it beneath a pink-and-white striped apron dress from Sororité Vintage. Vanity Fair Italia and Page Six both point out that the piece has been linked to Carrie Bradshaw’s wardrobe in the sixth season of Sex and the City, although Fashion Times notes that the connection comes from the seller and the exact costume history has not been independently confirmed. Either way, the full skirt and candy stripes gave the outfit a sweet, nostalgic feel.
Tan cowboy boots tied the look to her well-known love of riding and Western style, and the finishing touches were relaxed rather than formal: stacked gold pendant necklaces and beaded bracelets, as noted by Page Six and Fashion Times.
