Paris Fashion Week is usually about clothes, but one of the most talked-about moments of the Spring/Summer 2027 shows this month came from a diamond. On 1 October, the Paris jewellery house Messika staged a runway show for its new high jewellery collection, Terres de Contrastes, at the Grand Palais, and closed it with a blue diamond from Botswana.
A record blue diamond from Botswana
The finale piece, the Okavango Blue necklace, is built around a 20.46-carat diamond graded Fancy Deep Blue with VVS1 clarity. According to Messika, the stone was found in 2018 at the Orapa mine and cut from a 41.11-carat rough. The house describes it as the largest blue diamond ever discovered in Botswana and the eighth largest found anywhere, and says the necklace marks a partnership with the Government of Botswana. A&E Magazine reports that Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, attended as the stone was shown. Model Irina Shayk wore it to close the show, while Adriana Lima opened it.
The rest of the collection follows Botswana’s landscapes in three colour stories: the blues and greens of the Okavango Delta, the reds and ochres of the Kalahari Desert, and the pale whites of the Makgadikgadi salt pans, touched with the pinks and violets of dusk. CR Fashion Book highlights a necklace called Delta Sacré, which traces the delta’s branching waterways in more than 600 diamonds and finishes with a pear-shaped emerald. Even the venue played a part: the show was held in the Grand Palais’s curved gallery, chosen to echo the shape of desert dunes.
Boucheron’s ivy keeps climbing
Paris had more jewellery news this week. As the South China Morning Post reports, Boucheron has added nine new pieces to Lierre de Paris, its collection built on the ivy leaf. The motif has a long history at the house: it entered the archives in 1870, and Frédéric Boucheron used it in his 1879 drawing for the famous Question Mark necklace. Lierre de Paris first turned it into a high jewellery line in 2012, and creative director Claire Choisne has now taken it further.
What it means for everyday jewellery
Strong colour and nature motifs are clearly having a moment at the top of the market, and both translate easily into pieces you can wear every day. Deep blue is the classic choice in sapphire rings such as the Natural Sapphire Royal Halo Ring, a pear-shaped green stone sits at the centre of the Natural Emerald Pear Baguette Ring, and leafy designs like the Natural Emerald Leaf Vine Ring carry the same love of climbing greenery.
