Nana Mouskouri Honoured in Berlin as Air Supply Get a Hollywood Star

Two long and very different music careers were celebrated this week, one in Berlin and one in Los Angeles. Greek-born singer Nana Mouskouri received one of Germany’s highest state honours, while the soft-rock duo Air Supply unveiled their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Nana Mouskouri receives Germany’s Order of Merit

According to reporting by the Greek newspaper To Vima, carried by The Greek Herald, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented Mouskouri with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany at a ceremony in Berlin. She was one of 21 people honoured to mark German Unity Day for contributions to democratic values, social cohesion and international cooperation.

The honour has a particular resonance. Mouskouri’s international career took off in Germany in the early 1960s, when her recording of “Weiße Rosen aus Athen” (“White Roses from Athens”) became a major hit. Over more than six decades she has recorded in many languages, including Greek, German, French, English, Spanish and Italian. Beyond music, she served as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and represented Greece as a Member of the European Parliament.

Air Supply get their Hollywood star

Australian music site Noise11 reports that Air Supply, Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell, were given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 8 October 2026. The star, at 6126 Hollywood Boulevard, is the 2,859th awarded in the Recording category. Speakers at the ceremony included Pat Sajak and producer David Foster, and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s Ana Martinez spoke of the duo’s long-lasting connection with fans.

The pair first met in 1975 during rehearsals for the Australian production of “Jesus Christ Superstar”. From small venues in Sydney they went on to sell out concerts around the world, becoming known for soaring harmonies and heartfelt love songs that have now spanned more than half a century.
