The Prince of Wales took his elder son on a short trip to Spain this week. On Tuesday 3 November 2026, Prince William and Prince George watched Aston Villa face Barcelona in the Champions League from the directors’ box at the Spotify Camp Nou. Before kick-off, Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta welcomed them and presented both with club shirts.
A tough evening for Villa
The result was not the one the royal visitors had hoped for. Lamine Yamal put the hosts ahead in the seventh minute, and Raphinha scored twice after the break to seal a 3-0 win for Barcelona on a wet night in Catalonia. Photographers caught father and son looking frustrated in the stands, with George at one point resting his head on his father’s shoulder.
William’s loyalty to Villa is well documented. He has explained that as a boy he chose the Birmingham club partly because his school friends backed the big, fashionable names, and he wanted a team of his own. He has since followed them across Europe, including the Europa League final in Istanbul in May, and he took George to the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain in 2025.
Half-term, football and family
For 13-year-old George, the trip fell during his first half-term break from Eton College, which he joined in September. Vanity Fair Italia reports that the break began on 23 October and ends on 8 November. His younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, attend Lambrook School near the family’s home in Windsor and return home after lessons.
Low-key match-day style
Both royals dressed for the weather rather than the cameras. According to Harper’s Bazaar, William swapped his usual tailoring for a navy windbreaker and a black baseball cap, while George wore a dark Aston Villa track jacket. It is a practical, understated look that works for any rainy stadium or city break: dark outerwear, a simple cap and a bag that keeps your hands free. If you are planning a weekend away to watch a match, a hard-wearing leather crossbody bag or a roomy backpack keeps tickets, phone and a spare layer close. Villa will have other chances in this season’s competition, and for George there will no doubt be many more away days with his father.
