The sixth evening of the Rome Film Festival 2026 brought one genuine surprise to the red carpet. Valentina Lodovini, known for her dark hair, arrived for the premiere of her new film with long, icy platinum waves and a black archive Saint Laurent suit. Vanity Fair Italia called it the twist of the night, and Il Messaggero gave the look 8.5 out of 10.
A tuxedo with a twist
The occasion was È andata così, a comedy directed by Gianni Zanasi and shown in the festival’s Grand Public section on Sunday 18 October. According to Vogue Italia, it reaches Italian cinemas on 26 November. Lodovini plays Cecilia, a complicated woman who has retreated to the countryside and is forced to face the three most important exes of her life, played by Valerio Mastandrea, Michele Riondino and Leonardo Lidi.
Her outfit took its cue from classic menswear. The archive Saint Laurent jacket had glossy satin shawl lapels and was worn with nothing underneath, creating a deep V neckline. Slim cigarette trousers with a satin side stripe stopped just above the ankle, and pointed black patent stilettos added a sharp, feminine finish. Lodovini told Vogue Italia that she feels very confident when she dresses like a man, describing such pieces as true works of art.
Platinum waves and graphic liner
The hair stole the show. Vogue Italia describes a very long platinum wig with silvery reflections, styled in soft, structured waves, while Vanity Fair Italia noticed dark roots and hints of lilac and joked that the look suits the run-up to Halloween. The make-up kept the focus on the eyes, with a bold black graphic eyeliner and a matte nude lip. The contrast between cool, glacial hair and strict black tailoring gave her the air of an old-fashioned rock diva.
Elsewhere that evening, the beauty mood was mostly clean and luminous. Maria Chiara Giannetta wore a sleek bun with no parting, Astrid Meloni let a red lip take the lead, and Romana Maggiora Vergano paired a soft updo with porcelain skin and smoky eyes.
If you fancy borrowing the cool palette, silvery stones work beautifully with black tailoring. Try soft blue aquamarine earrings, a glowing moonstone ring or lilac-toned amethyst pendants, or browse our full range of earrings for a statement pair to wear with swept-back hair.
