The $50m Fantasy Bra Returns to Victoria’s Secret

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show went back to its glittering roots in Los Angeles this weekend. After eight years away from the runway, the famous Fantasy Bra returned, and it was worn by Kylie Jenner on her debut for the brand. As Vanity Fair Italia notes in its seven-point review of the night, it was a show of big comebacks, new faces and a few choices that divided fans.

A piece of high jewellery you can wear

According to Vogue, this year’s Fantasy Bra was made with the jeweller Jacob & Co. and is set with 4,410 natural diamonds around a 75.54-carat radiant-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamond. The stones come in seven cuts, including heart, pear, marquise and oval. Fifteen craftspeople spent more than 1,000 hours on it, and it weighs just under four pounds. Its reported value of 50 million dollars makes it the most expensive Fantasy Bra so far. The previous record, as USA Today and Page Six point out, was the 15 million dollar Red Hot Fantasy Bra worn by Gisele Bündchen in 2000. Jacob Arabo told Vogue that his idea was a bra with no fabric at all, only gold and diamonds.

The choice of model was the talking point. Traditionally the bra went to Angels who had walked the show for years, so some fans were surprised to see it on a first-timer. Adam Selman, the brand’s chief creative officer, told Vogue that he chose Jenner because she reaches far beyond fashion.

Familiar wings and new faces

Bella Hadid opened the show in a green look with huge wings covered in flowers, as Harper’s Bazaar reports. Vanity Fair Italia lists a strong line-up of returning Angels, among them Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Behati Prinsloo and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, alongside today’s names such as Gigi Hadid, Anok Yai, Alex Consani and Paloma Elsesser. Natalia Bryant also made her runway debut for the brand.

There was a surprise, too. Gisele Bündchen, who last walked for Victoria’s Secret in 2006, appeared in a pre-recorded video before the show began and again at the end, promising viewers that they would see more of her soon. Music came from Tate McRae, Megan Thee Stallion, Megan Moroney and KATSEYE.
