Colour is driving much of this month’s jewellery news. Three launches announced in the past few days, from New York and Mumbai, all lean on coloured gemstones rather than diamonds alone, each in a rather different way.
Turquoise and pearls join Tiffany’s HardWear
V Magazine reports that Tiffany & Co. has added nine pieces to its HardWear line, pairing turquoise beads and Akoya pearls with the collection’s familiar 18-karat gold links. Chief Artistic Officer Nathalie Verdeille took her cue from an archival lapis lazuli and pearl necklace once worn by Bunny Mellon, and also points to Andy Warhol’s bold palettes. The centrepiece is a 34-inch convertible necklace with two built-in clasps, so it can be worn long, doubled, or shortened alongside a bracelet. Small pyramid-shaped gold domes hold each stone in place, and the turquoise comes from the United States and Mexico, matched by shade. The pieces are due in stores and online this month.
Couture gems arrive in Mumbai
In India, The Hindu BusinessLine reports that Tanishq has brought its Signature Couture Edit, created with fashion designer Rahul Mishra, home after its debut at Paris Couture Week. Shown at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai on 7 October, the limited collection mixes white and black diamonds with citrine, emerald, amethyst, pink tourmaline, rubellite and garnet, in designs drawn from architecture and flowers. Titan’s Chief Design Officer, Revathi Kant, said it will be offered by invitation rather than across the chain’s stores, and noted a wider shift among Indian buyers towards jewellery as adornment rather than purely an investment.
A vintage cut in soft shades
Meanwhile, according to a company announcement published via GlobeNewswire, Le Vian is launching an Antique Cushion collection with US retailer KAY from mid-October. It is the first time the house’s patented cushion cut has been used across a selection of natural gemstones, eight in total, including quartz in several tones, blue topaz, aquamarine and morganite. The 17 in-store styles are priced from $1,499.99 to $4,999.99.
Taken together, the launches suggest that warm golds, sea blues and soft pinks are firmly in fashion this autumn. If these shades appeal to you, browse our citrine earrings, garnet pendants, aquamarine pendants and morganite pendants.
